SMART on FHIR is a globally promoted standard for electronic health record (EHR) applications. Through this standard, all healthcare applications can operate across platforms with a unified interface, enabling a comprehensive and scalable smart healthcare ecosystem.

At the same time, SMART on FHIR introduces innovative technical mechanisms for EHR integration and data authorization, allowing third-party applications to access only the "minimum necessary data" when connecting to hospital EHR systems, effectively preventing excessive data access and significantly enhancing privacy protection and information security.

The "Next-Generation EHR Plan" is the core policy of the Ministry of Health and Welfare to promote national EHR integration, dedicated to resolving long-standing system fragmentation issues. Since 2005, we have gradually built the FHIR toolset, successfully promoting cross-hospital EHR exchange and interoperability.

Building on this foundation, we are officially launching the "SMART Application Marketplace" this year, which will not only greatly accelerate the innovation of various smart healthcare applications, but also represents the world's first nationally-led EHR application marketplace with groundbreaking historical significance, while creating a truly cross-platform application ecosystem.

This initiative also presents a new solution to the global EHR fragmentation challenge. Through a nationwide submission process, we have gathered 115 outstanding applications, all compliant with the Taiwan Core dataset (TW Core) standard and following SMART specifications, ensuring that after completing FHIR data standardization, "plug-and-play" functionality can be achieved, comprehensively improving system integration efficiency.

This critical infrastructure will become an important engine driving Taiwan's smart healthcare advancement. On April 13, we are honored to invite Professor Kenneth D. Mandl of Harvard Medical School, the inventor of the SMART standard, to Taiwan, and will hold the "Taiwan SMART 50" awards ceremony to select 50 of the most representative applications as national showcase cases.

On the day of the event, in addition to Professor Kenneth D. Mandl's keynote speech, we will also invite FHIR founder Grahame Grieve to share the latest developments in FHIR technology, and Director Lee will explain the national roadmap for the next phase of smart healthcare development. Meanwhile, the 50 selected outstanding applications will be fully exhibited on-site.

This will be a rare opportunity to gain comprehensive insight into Taiwan's most cutting-edge smart healthcare achievements.
